Saif Ali Khan and Sonakshi Sinha New Bollywood Film Bullett Raja Movie Review:

Potboilers seem to have become the need of the hour in Bollywood with even the makers, who have stuck to content driven cinema, trying their hands at experiencing what it feels to be in the 100cr club. The latest to hit the marquee is filmmaker Tigmanshu Dhulia with Bullett Raja, who for long has carved his own path with films like Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster, Paan Singh Tomar etc. Whether his sensibility syncs with commercial cinema or he loses his art for monetary gains, let's find out.

Story:

Set in Uttar Pradesh, Bullett Raja is Tigmanshu's version of Ramesh Sippy's Sholay. Both Raja Mishra (Saif Ali Khan and Rudra Pratap (Jimmy Sheirgill) become buddies for life when Raja saves the latter's life in a gang-war. The two want nothing more than a stable-simple life but fate and some conniving politicians turn them into gangsters aka political commandos of politician Ram Babu Shukla (Raj Babbar) who stop at nothing. But their meteoric rise as the dreaded duo starts coming in the way of the industrialists and other politicians soon putting them on the hit list of many. Whether the two survive or not is that follows through the rest of the plot.

Artists Performance:

Coming to acting, both Jimmy and Saif put up a decent show and have some entertaining scenes as friends. Sadly, the faulty character-sketch and directionless direction scars their performances too. Character actors like Raj Babbar, Ravi Kissen, Gulshan Grover, Vipin Sharma are all passable.
The worry zones are both Vidyut Jamwal and Sonakshi Sinha who barely have any contribution in the film and fail to please even at that. It's surprising why would the director introduce a love angle in a film which didn't need one and why Sonakshi would even take up a role which is more inconsequential than even a prop. Vidyut Jamwal on the other hand comes with his martial art skills and the same old straight face which refuses to emote all through his run time.

Technical and Other Departments:

The movie is all about the refreshingly original screenplay and the tight direction. The dialogues (written by Tigmanshu himself) are crisp and witty and don’t fizzle out at any part of the movie. They are not over done either. Some of them got wolf whistles as the audience cheered the actors for some more. With all the pluses in the movie however, the songs in the movie are disappointing. Sajid-Wajid have provided a good background score with a true Hollywood western style mouth organ playing at the pauses and the intense parts of the movie. But, the songs are badly placed. ‘Dont touch me’ and ‘Tamanche pe disco’ make you think why the director needed to put these tracks at all when he could have easily done without them.

Movie Analysis:

Bullett Raja is nothing but Tigmanshu Dhulia oscillating between content and masala. The maker unspools a complex plot for a massy character what with the surfeit of characters that keep coming in right till the last 15 minutes of the film but at the same time, reduces his concoction to a mere case of convenience. There's ample liberty taken with the creation of characters and situations in the film.
Almost 80 per cent of the film struggles to match the formulaic patterns of commercial cinema so you see the characters heading to Mumbai city only for a disco number, Tamanche Pe Disco (which too isn't remotely appeasing) or moving to Kolkata to dance between the yellow Taxis. Only if the director could focus on the script more than jazzy-ing his film with numbers which aren't hummable anyway, the film would've worked wonders!

Yet another eye sore is the continuity blunder. You see both Saif and Jimmy with all shapes, styles and sizes of hair throughout the film. So you'd see Saif entering through a door with short hair and exiting with straight, extremely bronzed long hair all within the same scene. You don't need a reviewer to pinpoint such glaring mistakes; it can be noticeable even to a layman.

Final View:

Overall, Bullett Raja had the scope to bring about some content in the current crop of massy entertainers and could cater to the intelligentsia but Tigmanshu Dhulia's inept attempt ruins all such chances. Quite a downer!

Sundeep Kishan and Rakul Preet Singh New Telugu Film Venkatadri Express Movie Review:

Film is not just displaying the same kind of heroism, same kind of dances and repeating same old dialogues. Oh god gives us a break… There are no hard and fast rules for making a film. And only small films can break free from this set formula… but is it fair to call them as small films? Whichever film shows something new to Telugu audience is a big film and Venkatadri Express is one such film. It may not be great film, but in between all these thrash who claim to be greatest films ever made, this is definitely a great film. What does Venkatadri Express got to offer to you? What can you expect from the film and what makes it click? Read on to know all these and much more.

Story:

Sundeep (Sundeep Kishan) is an youngster who shows responsibility for the society. His father (Nagineedu) is very strict and he has a policy of disowning his family members if their count of mistakes touch 100. Sundeep has already committed 99 mistakes. His brother Brahmaji’s (Brahmaji) wedding is going to take place in Tirupathi. Sundeep misses his train Venkatadri Express due to an unavoidable issue. The rest of the story is all about whether Sundeep commits his 100th mistake or not!

Artists Performance:

Sundeep Kishan excels as a solo commercial hero with right amount of performance. He has danced well in the intro song of the film. Rakul Preet Singh is cute and does her part well. Nagineedu is okay as a strict father. Saptagiri gives a nice performance as a victim who loses his bag to Sundeep. His dialect and comedy timing is impeccable. Thagubothu Ramesh did what he is best at - a thagubothu character. He entertains. Brahmaji shows a lot of innocence in his expressions while doing bakra or shy roles. He is perfect fit for the character in this film. Jaya Prakash Reddy, Pruthvi, MS Narayana and Narsing Yadav are good.

Technical and Other Departments:

As told earlier screenplay is the highlight of the film. It was well supported by camera work of experience Chota K Naidu. Maybe because it is the film of his nephew that he seems to have worked hard! Both the songs have been picturised very colourfully. Though there are only two songs, music director Ramana Gogula could exhibit his skills through re-recording.

Movie Analysis:

Debutant director Merlapaka Gandhi comes up with a movie that has right gradients (entertainment and family emotions) in the right mix. He has got decent screenplay/story writing skills. You might feel that movie is over once Sundeep reaches the marriage venue in Tirupati. But the movie picks up after a brief lull to give a perfect ‘happy ending’.

Final View:

Overall, Venkatadri Express is a time pass film. With lots of laughs and little thrill audience can enjoy this film!

SANIA MIRZA BIOGRAPHY

Sania Mirza Biography:
Sania Mirza was born on 15 November 1986, in Mumbai,India. She is a professional Indian tennis player, well known for her powerful forehand ground strokes. She holds the record for being the highest ranked Indian player for over a decade in between 2003–2013, after which her retirement from the singles competition put Ankita Raina at the top spot. In her career, Mirza has notable wins over Svetlana Kuznetsova, Vera Zvonareva, Marion Bartoli; and former World No. 1s Martina Hingis, Dinara Safina, and Victoria Azarenka. She is the highest ranked female tennis player ever from India, with a career high ranking of 27 in singles and 7 in doubles. She is the first Indian female player to surpass US$1m in career earnings; first Indian to win a WTA Tour title of any kind; and, by winning the 2009 Australian Open – Mixed Doubles Event, became the third Indian, male or female, to win a Grand Slam title (the first two being Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes). Mirza has also won the 2012 French Open – Mixed Doubles Event (her second Grand Slam title). Mirza was named one of the '50 heroes of Asia' by Time in October 2005. In March 2010, The Economic Times named Mirza in the list of the "33 women who made India proud".

Early life:

Sania was born to Imran Mirza, a sports journalist, and his wife Naseema in Mumbai, Maharashtra. She and younger sister Anam were brought up in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh in a [Muslim]] family. She is related to former cricket captains Ghulam Ahmed of India, and Asif Iqbal of Pakistan. Mirza began playing tennis at the age of six, turning professional in 2003. She was trained by her father. She attended NASR school in Hyderabad and later graduated from St. Mary's College.
Mirza received an honorary degree of Doctor of Letters from the MGR Educational and Research Institute University in Chennai on 11 December 2008. Her niece, Sonia Baig Mirza, studies there. Mirza is the third Indian woman in the Open Era to feature and win a round at a Grand Slam tournament (the first one being Nirupama Vaidyanathan at the 1998 Australian Open and the second being Shikha Uberoi at the 2004 US Open). She also became the 1st Indian woman to be seeded in a Grand Slam event at the 2006 Australian Open.

Sania Mirza Personal Life:

In 2009, Sania Mirza became engaged to childhood friend Sohrab Mirza. However the engagement was called off shortly after. She started seeing Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik. On 12 April 2010, she married Shoaib Malik in an Islamic wedding ceremony at the Taj Krishna Hotel in Hyderabad, India followed by Pakistani wedding customs for a mahr of INR61 lakh (US$137,500). Their Walima ceremony was held in Lahore, Pakistan.

The online attention the wedding received made Mirza the most searched woman tennis player and most searched Indian sportsperson in 2010 according to Google Trends. The wedding was even more controversial because Shoaib Malik was accused by another girl of already being married to her and hence he could not marry Mirza without first divorcing her. Initially for many days, Shoaib Malik refused to grant the divorce claiming he was never married. This resulted in a huge media drama leading to so much online attention as stated earlier. Finally, having no other option, Shoaib divorced the girl paving the way for his next marriage to Mirza. Sania's mother Naseema has been appointed as the manager of the two member tennis team for London Olympics 2012

The short tennis clothes she wears on the court has drawn criticism from some Muslim religious group.According to one report published 8 September 2005, a Muslim scholar had issued a ruling, saying that women's tennis attire is not suited to Islam. Jamiat-ulema-e-Hind rejected rumours about disrupting her game saying that they do not stop anyone from playing, although they found female tennis players' dress code objectionable. Nevertheless, Calcutta police tightened security measures to protect her. After Mirza spoke at a conference on safe sex in November 2005, some groups said she was a "corrupting influence on the youth." Mirza clarified her stance by saying that she was opposed to pre-marital sex.

In 2006, some newspapers reported that Mirza declined to play doubles with Israeli tennis player Shahar Pe'er for fear of protests from India's Muslim community. However, when she teamed up with Pe'er for the 2007 WTA Tour of Stanford, California, there was no reaction. Mirza was pictured resting her feet and showing the soles of her bare feet as she watched compatriot Rohan Bopanna play in the 2008 Hopman Cup, with an Indian flag in front. She faced possible prosecution under the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act after a private citizen complained. Mirza protested, "I love my country, I wouldn't be playing Hopman Cup otherwise."

On 4 February 2008, Mirza said that she would stop appearing in tennis tournaments held in India, starting with the 2008 Bangalore Open the following month, citing the series of controversies and upon advice by her manager. But Mirza chose to participate at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. This time, she faced no controversies; also the Indian public was happy that she has started to play at major tournaments in India. After both Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna refused to play in the men's doubles event at the 2012 Olympics with Leander Paes, Paes demanded that he be partnered with Mirza for the mixed doubles event. Mirza was furious and accused the All India Tennis Association (AITA) of using her as 'bait' to keep Paes happy; she originally wanted to play with Bhupathi, whom she has won 2 grand slams with. In the end, Mirza was paired with Paes; the pair lost in the quarterfinals of the mixed doubles.

Mirza was photographed without the Indian flag at the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics. In response, Mirza reaffirmed her loyalty to the land of her birth – "To see the national flag go up while standing on the podium is the proudest moment in an athlete's life and I will want to experience that for myself in London."

Sania Mirza Awards:

In 2004, Mirza was awarded the Arjuna award by the Indian Government. In 2006, Mirza was awarded a Padma Shri, India's fourth highest honour for her achievements as a tennis player.
Arjuna Award (2004)
WTA New Comer of the Year (2005)
Padma Shri (2006)

Arya and Anushka Shetty New South Film Varna( Irandam Ulagam) Movie Review:

The promos of director Selvaraghavan's Telugu movie Varna starring Arya and Anushka Shetty in leads, had rocked the viewers' expectations to the sky high. But the movie, which has hit the screens today (November 22), fails to reach them. Instead of entertaining the audience, the film proves to be an unbearable torture in many places. It completely lacks entertainment quotient.

Story:

Varna has two plots. One story happens on earth in which Ramya (Anushka Shetty) falls in love with Madhu Balakrishna (Arya). Ramya proposes him, but he rejects her love. By the time he realises her love and starts chasing her, she accepts a marriage another proposal. The second story happens on a strange planet, which is a place where people have not experienced love. Here Mahendra (Arya) falls in love with Varna (Anushka) and marries her. But the circumstances lead them to breakup, thereby forcing Mahendra to go to Earth, where he saves Madhu. What happens next will form the crux of the story.

Artists Performance:

Arya has played double role in Varna and he has delivered an awesome performance for both. He looks sunning with chiseled body. Especially, he is sure to rock the viewers in action scenes. His chemistry with Anushka Shetty is a treat to watch on screen. Like Arya, Anushka has double roles in Varna. She has huge scope for performance and she has done a brilliant job. More than her glam factor, her acting skills impresses the audience. She also impresses viewers with her sword-fighting scenes in the film.

Technical and Other Departments:

Varna has rich production values and its special effects are the main highlight in the technical front. The Hollywood technicians, who have earlier worked on projects like Avatar, have done VFX works for the movie and these effects are simply amazing. Other than visual effects, the music is another highlight of the movie. Harris Jayraj's soundtracks are good, but placement of a couple of songs is wrong and illogical. Anirudh's background score is one of the big assets of the film Varna.
Varna has been shot in exotic locales of Russia, Georgia, Brazil and a few other parts of India. Ramji has handled the camera work well. His cinematography is also a big asset of the film and it is a visual treat for the viewers. Varna has several fight scenes, which have been choreographed very well. The sword-fighting scenes of Arya and Anushka are simply superb and sure to rock the action lovers. Other technical departments like dance choreography, art direction, costume designs and makeup have also done commendable job. But Kola Bhaskar could have bettered the viewing experience by trimming the dragging scenes.

Movie Analysis:

Varna is a romantic fantasy film and Arya and Anushka Shetty's brilliant performances are the main highlight of the film. Selva's symbolic script, amazing visual effects, Anirudh's background score, Harris Jayaraj's tunes, Ramji's cinematography, well-choreographed action, beautiful locales, art direction and costumes are its other attractions. But its slow-paced narration, which tests the patience, mars the beauty of the movie. Another big drawback is that it lacks comedy quotient.

Selvaraghavan has chosen an interesting story, but what he lacks in the script is the energy to take you on joy ride. Varna has two stories loosely connected with each other and the narration constantly keep lurching between the two, which makes it difficult for a layman to understand the story. Another difficulty for common man is its symbolic narration. It has several twists and turns, but many of them are predictable. The movie begins with a slow narration and it drags till few minutes before the end of the first half. There are a few interesting moments before the interval bang. After the interval, the story runs in to a complex world of beats, which is little tough to understand, but is interesting. However, the dragging narration gets extended to the second half too. The climax is another hard nut for a common man.

Final View:

Varna has everything going in a right way, but the confusing story and dragging narration kills the interest of the viewers. If you are going to watch it for entertainment, then this is not your cup of tea.

Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor New Bollywood Film Gori Tere Pyaar Mein Movie Review:

After Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor will be seen together again in Punit Malhotra's Gori Tere Pyaar Mein, that has hit the theatres today. Gori Tere Pyaar Mein (GTPM), a romantic comedy, revolves around an interesting story of a guy who travels all the way to a village from the city to win his love. Gori Tere Pyaar Mein is funny, crazy and likeable.Gori Tere Pyaar Mein is a competently made romantic-comedy with a predictable story at its core. The film is light-hearted and has a feel good factor, but misses out on the impeccably flawless factor.

Story:

The story of Gori Tere Pyaar Mein is about Sriram Venkat (Imran Khan), a young architect and his struggle to cross a bridge... a bridge that bridges the love and gap between two people. Venkat is attracted to Dia (Kareena Kapoor), a passionate, strong-headed, young activist from Delhi.Venkat's attraction towards Dia was physical initially but then got emotional and finally veered into complex territories resulting in a clash of ideologies and mindsets which drove them apart. Bitterly. Sriram believed that charity begins and ends at home. Whilst Dia felt that you have to be the change that you want to bring about. However Sriram realizes that he is not over Dia and still loves her and that she is the best change that ever happened... and will happen to his life. But Dia has moved on and is now in an obscure village in Gujarat called Jhumli. Will Sriram be able to win back his love? or it'll be an unsuccessful love story in Venkat's life?

Artists Performance:

If you think it's only the story that leaves you in a comatose position then you're wrong, this reviewer has been through much worse - Imran Khan. The actor comes back to the genre he started with, rom-com, but fairs much worse than his prior films as well. He desperately tries to act funny or emotional throughout the film but fails at both. Kareena on the other hand tries to cover up for the lack of her co-star and ends up acting doubly.

Technical and Other Departments:

In terms of production quality too Dharma Productions film disappoints this time around for the set up of the village appears highly caricaturish and the film also has continuity flaws. Music is Good.

Movie Analysis:

You literally have the first half of the film establishing how selfish his main protagonist is with repetitive instances, an image which could be earned for Sriram in a montage sequence itself. Similar is the case of his love story too, there's enough screen time given to establish that both Sriram and Dia have contrasting personalities. What's worse, to a plot which is threadbare, the maker forcefully inserts a non-linear narrative with the insertion of Shraddha Kapoor's character in the film.

Final View:

Overall, This review could go on and on about the shortcomings for Gori Tere Pyaar Mein which clearly was made with fun, frolic and laxity but it should suffice to state that the film is one of the weakest from the Dharma camp in a long while and an easy skip too lest you are Imran or Kareena fans.

SINGH SAAB THE GREAT MOVIE REVIEW

Sunny Deol and Amrita Rao New Bollywood Film Sing Saab The Great Movie Review:

Let's get one thing straight. If you haven't been a fan of Sunny Deol superhits like Ghatak, Ghayal, Gaddar and more, if you don't have his famous dialogues right from dhai kilo ka haath or tareek pe tareek memorized or if you don't like the high-octane raw, brawny action drama then Singh Saab The Great isn't a film for you.

Story:

The movie revolves around the morally upright government official Saranjeet Singh (Sunny Deol) who works as a collector in a small town of UP. Being a proponent of good deeds, Saranjeet Singh always stands in the way of corruption and takes on corrupt officials who are plaguing the nation. He goes to all lengths to restore truth and honesty even if it means putting his and his family's life at stake.

Artists Performance:

It's after long that one finds Prakash Raj playing a negative role menacingly and not making it appear like the million others he has played in the formula films of Bollywood. The battle between both Deol and Raj has its gripping moments. Amrita Rao as a journalist who is chronicling the life of Singh Saab is average at best and doesn't add any value to the story.

Technical and Other Departments:

Singh Saab The Great has it all going for it except that the film (treatment-wise) comes a few years delayed for its time. Despite having its moments, there are portions in the film which remind you of '80s cinema. Even the production quality is jaded and gives the film a tripe feeling. Filmmaker Anil Sharma takes a very old school approach in story-telling which is decorated garishly with loud background score and melodramatic sequences.

Movie Analysis:

Singh Saab The Great scores purely for rooting for our desi hero. Instead of adapting or being inspired by the Hollywood action flicks, the movie brings back the times of an underdog rising to fight for his, his family and his nation's pride. There couldn't have been another actor more befitting to this story than Sunny Deol. His comeback to the action mode is brilliant. But the actor fails in emoting romantic sequences as endearingly as he used to in the past. The rust on his acting prowess, owing to the gap that came about, can easily be seen. Having a teenage debutante (Urvashi Rautela) opposite him only makes matters worse for the gap in age makes for a bad cinematic experience.

Final View:

Overall, Singh Saab The Great is a complete single screen film for Sunny Deol fans who are yearning to see him back in action. For the others it's just another masala entertainer.
