Allu Sirish and Regina Cassandra New Telugu Film Kotha Janta Movie Review:

Director Maruthi, who is known for his youth entertainers, has teamed with young actor Allu Sirish for his latest directorial venture Kotha Janta, which has released in theatres worldwide today (April 30). Besides receiving critical acclaim, all his previous movies have been big hits at the Box Office. Now, he has once again made sure that his latest release Kotha Janta will also impress the film goers in Andhra Pradesh.

Story:

Programme director Sirish (Allu Sirish) and Creative director Suvarna (Regina Cassandra) are selfish individuals, who team up to make a new programme Kotha Janta to increase TRP of Y Channel. While they are working together, they start feeling an emotional bond between them. Daring Sirish proposes Suvarna, but an expected twists splits them and makes them rivals. What happens next will form the crux of the story.

Artists Performance:

As a selfish guy, Allu Sirish has delivered good performance in Kotha Janta. He has shown lot of maturity and improvements in his acting when compared to his debut film Gouravam. As his partner, Regina Cassandra has done her best. She wins the heart of viewers with her glamour. Saptagiri has tried his best to tickle the funny bones of audience. Madhurima's item number is good. Others have also done justice their respective roles.

Technical and Other Departments:

Kotha Janta has rich production values and JB's music is main attraction in the technical front. His songs and background score are big assets of the film. Richard Prasad's picturisation is another big strength of the film. His camera work in song sequences is superb. Selection of beautiful locales and costume is commendable. Ashok Kuruba's editing is also good, but he could have chopped some boring scenes in the second half of the film.

Movie Analysis:

Kotha Janta is a romantic comedy entertainer with all commercial elements to woo mass audience. Allu Sirish's performance is one of the big highlights in it. Maruthi's interesting story, screenplay and punch lines, Regina Cassandra's glamour, Saptagiri's comedy timing, JB's trendy music and Richard Prasad's beautiful cinematography are other attractions in the movie. The dragging and boring narration in the second half is its one big drawback.Maruthi has taken a unique concept for Kotha Janta and tried his best to execute it on screeb with some interesting twists and turns. The story is all about what happens when a selfish boy and girl fall in love with each other. The director has done brilliant screenplay and made it a colourful romance drama. The movie Kotha Janta opens with the funny introduction of the hero and heroine's selfish childhood days. The first half of the film has a racy and engaging narration. Allu Sirish and Regina's romance and Sapthagiri's hilarious comedy keep you engaged and entertained in this portion. Following the break up of lovers before the interval bang, the movie hits a rough patch and the narration goes very slow in the second half. Though the climax is predictable, it is interesting.

Final View:

Overall, Kotha Janta is another youthful and colourful entertainer from director Maruthi. Allu Sirish, Regina Cassandra and Saptagiri rock you with their performances. The movie can be a good entertainer for family audience this weekend.

Nayanthara New Telugu Film Anaamika Movie Review:

Prior its release, Telugu movie Anamika has garnered huge positive buzz as it is the remake of hit Hindi suspense thriller Kahaani starring Vidya Balan. Critically-acclaimed director Sekhar Kammula and popular South Indian actress Nayantara's association with this project has added more to the curiosity of the viewers. Released in theatres today, the movie manages to live up to the audiences' expectations.

Story:

Anaamika (Nayanatara) lands in Hyderabad to find the whereabouts of her now missing husband Ajay Shastri (Harshavardhan Rane), a software employee. The police to whom she complains shows cold shoulder, but Parthasarathy (Vaibhav) is an exception.  He goes out of his way and some times beyond the call of his duty to help the hapless woman trace her husband.
Does she find her husband?  What is the role of the police in it?  Who is Ajay Shastri and what is the role of Milind Damji in his life?  Why is the Home Minister (Naresh) on tenterhooks?  Does Anaamika have the ability to rock the boat by getting in possession something that can shake the nation?

Artists Performance:

Nayanatara is seen in an author-backed role. She is convincing when she sobs, she is good when she is assertive. She has portrayed various emotions well. This is quite challenge for her in a role that was done by Vidya Balan. Nayanatara has succeeded. Pasupathy makes an impact and even brings out a smile or two in us. Vaibhav emotes more and talks less.  He, again, fits the bill.  Harshavardhan Rane has brief role. Naresh is just about ok.

Technical and Other Departments:

On the technical front, it is senior music director MM Keeravani whose work gets noticed first. With his effective background score, he lifts to the movie in many sequences.  The two songs coalesce with the film and we do not know when they come and go. Addamlo Ammayi song that come as the end credits roll is too good.

Cinematography is neat. Vijay C Kumar has captured the old city of Hyderabad well. Although the film is not lengthy, the film has slow pace for a thriller. Editor Marthand Venkatesh should have fastened the pace in the first half. Art work is good.
As writer and director, Sekhar Kammula this is quite different genre. His strength has been lighthearted urbane movies. Although, the genre is new to him, he has managed to pull off.

Movie Analysis:

First things first.  By accepting the challenge of adaptation of a one-woman narrative like Kahaani, Shekar Kammula has proven himself to be a filmmaker who is game for challenges. For the first time in his bright career, he has remade a film. Anaamika is not exact remake of Bollywood film, Kaahani. Director Sekhar Kammula and veteran writer Yandamuri Veerendranath has taken the basic plot from the movie and have told in a different manner. So it is more of adaptation than the remake.

Besides taking some amount of creative liberty with the original plot, Kammula doesn't violate the soul of the original. The essence of the original is not harmed. But here in Anaamika, the heroine is not seen with baby bump unlike the original. Yet, Nayanatara's character surprises us with her perseverance, ability to challenge the authority of the cops and so on.  She breaks down when she is alone, does a tear jerker in the presence of Vaibhav, but she is more than any of these.
The film starts off on a slow note. Entire first half lacks mojo but as the film grows in tempo, it makes us root for it.  Second half of the film is truly engrossing. And the climax is very good. The best moments in the film come post interval.

Final View:

A serious film and has topical subject, Anaamika is a nice thriller. Although it doesn't look as novel as the original movie, this is fairly good adaptation of Kaahani by Sekhar Kammula. Post interval sequences work out so well. For those who have not seen Kahaani, surely Anaamika will be a treat.

Manchu Lakshmi and Others New Telugu Film Chandamama Kathalu Movie Review:

In an anthology film with eight stories, some are interesting, some are touchy, and some are not so interesting. Few sequences are very creative, few are routine. Quite a few scenes are illogical too. But Praveen Sattaru has tried to present a different movie with Chandamama Kathalu although anthology films are new to Telugu audiences.

Must say it is kind of novel effort. A writer narrating his stories, and they are unfolding on screen with an unusual end is novel to Telugu cinema. Also I stress that better handling of some stories would have made a lot of difference.

Story:

Chandamama Kathalu is an anthology of eight individual stories. People involved in these eight stories are Venkateswara Rao (Krishnudu) - a obese, Krishneswar Rao - an aspirational beggar, Lisa Smith (Lakshmi Manchu) - a falling model, Saritha (Aamani) - a widow and Mohan (Naresh) - Saritha's Ex-boy friend, Saradhi (Kishore) - a widower, Raghu (Chaitanya Krishna) - a college going guy, Ashraf (Abhijeet) - who runs a Kirana Store and Raghu (Naga Shaurya) - an accidental husband.

Artists Performance:

Of all the actors, it is Krishneswara Rao in the role of a beggar that makes strong impact. He is natural. Lakshmi Prasanna is suited well in the role of model. Kishore is another actor who leaves his mark. Naresh and Aamani in the roles of aged lovers are apt. Chaitanya Krishna gets noticed with his short role. Richa Panai, Abhijeet Pandla and Shamili Agarwal are okay.

Technical and Other Departments:

Of the music, the title song is good and haunting. Cinematography by Suresh is first rate. In fact, he has shown Hyderabad city in rather different light. Anthology films need effective editing and Dharmendra has done the job well. He should have trimmed some unnecessary scenes in the first half though.

Writer and director Praveen Sattaru proves that he has penchant for trying something different. He has shown his mark in many scenes. If he had focused on lesser characters with better etched out characters and given emotional touch to some sequences, Chandamama Kathalu would have a been a quite good movie.

Movie Analysis:

What is interesting in this anthology of the movie is the way the writer-director Praveen Sattaru has given a twist in the end. Many people may not get the final twist but the underlying theme is that there is no bigger creator/writer than the God. In fact the film's biggest strength is the final moments despite some stories fail to create any interest. Yes, first half of the movie moves at snail pace.

The beggar’s episode and the ending moments are the best. As I mentioned earlier, the premise is good but Praveen Sattaru has not etched the characters properly. The Krishnudu story is  silly. Nobody worries today if one doesn't get married at the age of 30. The story of Lisa Smith, the model, hardly has any novelty.

Final View:

Chandamama Kathalu is an anthology film with eight stories. Has its own moments, some interesting episodes too. But it is burdened with too many stories and some dull sequences.

Nara Rohit and Shubra Aiyappa New Telugu Film Prathinidhi Movie Review:

Nara Rohit, who is the Nephew of Nara Chandrababu Naidu, made his acting debut with hit film Banam and later proved his mettle as a commercial hero with the movie Solo. Fourteen months after the release of his last outing Okkadine, this young and talented actor is back with his next film Prathinidhi, which has released in theatres today (April 25). The trailer of the film has created lot of positive buzz, prior its release.

Story:

Manchodu Srinu (Nara Rohit) is a commoner who is vexed with the flawed political system. He decides to repair it and kidnaps the AP Chief Minister with the help of a minister's son. Unlike normal kidnappers, Srinu makes peculiar demands which expose the flaws in the system. He tries to make amends to those flaws with his demands. There occurs a twist towards the end of the film and it has to be watched on screen.

Artists Performance:

As Prathinidhi, Nara Rohit has delivered wonderful performance and he is the showman in the film. When looked at his previous movies, he has improved his acting in Prathinidhi. He will impress the viewers with his dialogue diction. Shubra Ayyappa has less scope and she has failed to use the available space to impress the viewers. Kota Srinivasa Rao, Posani, Sri Vishnu, Ravi Prakash and Jayaprakash Reddy have done their job well and their performances are the big assets of the film.

Technical and Other Departments:

Prathinidhi has decent production values and Sai Karthik's music is the main attraction in the technical front. His background score elevates several scenes. Chitti Babu's cinematography is another big strength of the film. The dialogues written by Prashanth Mandava are also good and among big assets of the movie. Nandhamuri Hari's editing is commendable.

Movie Analysis:

Prathinidhi is a political thriller with a few commercial ingredients. Nara Rohit's sterling performance is the main highlight in the film. Anand Ravi's interesting story, Prashanth Mandava's arresting narration and dialogues, Sai Karthik's music and Chitti Babu's camera work are other attractions of the film. The lack of entertainment quotient, poor execution of the script and a few illogical scenes are its drawbacks.Anand Ravi has written an innovative story for Prathinidhi and its concept is quite fresh and unique. The plot is based on a common man's struggle against the corrupt system. Director Prashanth Mandava has done a good screenplay out of this story and he has very good grip on the narration. But he seems to have taken certain things for granted. Especially, he has dealt the scene of kidnapping of the CM very lightly. He should have given it a more realistic touch.

Final View:

Finally, Prathinidhi ends up as an average. The film suffers due to the inexperience of a debut director lest it should be a super hit. The movie may sell well in the political heat of the state provided the publicity is good.
