Manchu Manoj and Sakshi Chowdhary New Telugu Film Potugadu Movie Review:

Updated: Saturday, September 14, 2013, 13:23 [IST] Pavan Wadeyar debuted as director in Kannada with the movie Govindaya Namaha. Besides wonderful script and direction, his unique marketing strategy made this movie a big hit in the Sandalwood Box Office. After delivering another hit with Googly in Kannada, he is foraying into Tollywood with Potugadu, a remake of his first directorial venture, which is a comedy drama featuring funnyman Komal Kumar. The movie is sure to rock the Telugu audiences.

Story:
Govindu (Manchu Manoj) goes to a hilly terrain to commit suicide; there he sees another guy (Posani Krishna Murali) is also trying to do the same. Govindu narrates his story and what prompted him to take this step. Flashback. Govindu Shastri is an unemployed youth in love with a local Brahmin girl but her father is dead against Govindu. He leaves the village and lands in Hyderabad where he meets Anarkali (Sakshi Chowdhary) and falls for her. One day, in an inebriated condition, he talks bad about Anarkali that irks her. So they break up. Later two more girls Stacy (Rachel) and Mary (Anupriya) walk in his life. But his heart really beats for his Anarkali. Rest of the drama is regular stuff.

Artists Performance:
It’s a tailor-made character for Manoj Manchu. He brings in his own mischief and fun into the character and plays it spontaneously. He is pretty good at making voices and some of the dialogues he uttered in Mohan Babu’s style are hilarious. Posani Krishna Murali comes second in terms of entertainment. All four actress (Simran Kaur Mundi, Sakshi Choudhary, Anupriya Goenka and Rachel) are appropriately cast. Ali plays the role of a doctor. Narsing Yadav and Ragu Babu are good in brief roles. Director Pavan Wadeyar did the role of foreign girl’s fiancee.

Technical and Other Departments:

Story of the film is about how a fickle-minded lovers gets it right. Director Pavan Wadeyar who has also directed it’s Kannada original Govindayanamaha made sure that narration goes on smoothly though there are certain logical issues. However, he tied every loose end during climax of the movie. Pavan did well with the entertainment part and the climax twist. The narration format is good with four stories coming in spaced flashbacks during the conversion between Manoj and Posani. Dialogues by Sreedhar Seepana are very entertaining with nice rhyme. Songs scored by Achu are good (especially Devatha and Pyar Mein). The animation done for the opening titles is cool. Some of the action episodes composed are realistic. Cinematography by Srikanth Naroz is decent.

Movie Analysis:
First half of the film is fun. Second half’s pace goes a little slow, but picks up during climax where all loose ends are tied together. Plus points of the film are Manoj Manchu’s performance, dialogues and entertainment. On the other hand an universal orientation in the treatment would have been good. On a whole, Potugadu film has entertainment value.

Final View:
Potugadu is routine drama but has good dose of double meaning dialogues and some good comedy scenes in first half of the movie. Strictly okay movie.
