Amitabh Bachchan and Parth Bhalerao New Bollywood Bhoothnath Returns Movie Review:
The fad of funny ghosts seems to be catching up in Hindi cinema. Only recently we had Gang of Ghosts, a supposed comedy cum satire on the growing commercialisation of India and now we have yet another social satire, this time in the form of a sequel Bhootnath Returns. Sequel to the 2008 hit film Bhootnath, Bhootnath Returns promises to be funnier than its predecessor and also relevant to the current times.

Story:
Released strategically around the time when the election fever has gripped India, Bhootnath Returns is the story of a disappointed and embarrassed ghost Bhootnath (Amitabh Bachchan) who gets mocked in the Bhoot World for not being able to so much as even scare a child.
In his defense, he states that it was their flaut that the child could see him and demands another chance to redeem his lost reputation. He gets a chance to prove himself by scaring at least ten children and is sent back on Earth. However, sadly enough, he is too simple a ghost for children to be scared of him and what's sadder is that yet again, another child, Akhrot (Parth Bhalero) this time, can see him. Together they agree to help each other and their friendship sees them get involved in a cause that is bigger than they had ever imagined. To move ahead they will need to take on one of the country's most powerful and corrupt politician Bhau (Boman Irani). In a world, where a common man is afraid of politics, will a common man's ghost overcome his fear to stand up for what's right and fight against injustice?

Artists Performance:
The film works primarily for the entertaining pair of Big B with the little wonder Parth Bhalero. The little actor is spot on with his mannerisms, dialogues and acting. And it wouldn't be wrong to say that he outshines even Amitabh Bachchan in a few scenes. However, needless to mention that Sr. Bachchan too is perfect in his part. Boman Irani too adds to the much needed comic relief but his portion is more evil this time than comic.

Technical and Other Departments:
Music by various composers including Yo Yo Honey Singh and Meet Bros is average at best with only a song or two standing out. Screenplay is good.

Movie Analysis:
Director Nitesh Tiwari couldn't have chosen a better time to come out with a film that revolves around Politics and urges people in its own satirical way to vote. However, what starts out as an entertaining fair turns into a drag preachy dialogue which neither caters to the young minds nor to adults.

The movie starts off interestingly. The concept of a Bhoot World and the idea to send Bhootnath back to regain the fear that's required to be a "Bhoot" is refreshing and interesting. Even the point where Bhootnath decides to contest for elections for there isn't a rule anywhere that the candidate needs to be alive and the way he works his strategy around is all very interesting. However, the filmmaker stumbles in taking it all the way. Half way into the film and you are put through enough sermons and election advertisement urging you to vote for a change. That's when not just the pace of the film slumps but also your interest in it.

Final View:
Overall, Bhootnath Returns is not as witty or humorous as it appears from its trailers. A film that could be entertaining all the way had it not lost its plot.

Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt New Bollywood Film 2 States Movie Review:
After enough hoopla about the chemistry of Arjun and Alia in the film, their sizzling intimate scenes what with all the excessive kissing in the promos, their alleged ongoing off screen romance, 2 States, the official adaptation of Chetan Bhagat's best seller by the same name finally makes it to silver screen. But should it receive a thunderous response as did the book? We tell you.

Story:
Krish (Arjun Kapoor) is an average looking Punjabi boy from Delhi studying in IIM Ahmedabad who chances upon the most good looking girl in the institute Ananya (Alia Bhatt) a Tamil-Brahmin. Cupid strikes almost instantly but he holds his horses for she has been the center of attraction of every boy in the institute and he doesn't want to follow the herd. However, after a prolonged friendship he finally opens up only to be reciprocated favourably. Thus starts their lust turns love story and two are thrown into the whirlwind of North meets South when the two distinct families collide. Whether the societal and cultural differences get in the way or their love conquers all is what follows through the rest of the plot.

Artists Performance:
Alia Bhatt is a natural as a modern day, well educated Tamilian despite being all of 21 and only 2 films old and playing such a character for the first time. Not only does she appear extremely beautiful but also plays her part well. Arjun Kapoor switches from the evil streak that he has been portraying in all his previous films to play a reserved boy-next-door in this film. However, he completely fails to pull off the film on his shoulders. He just doesn't emote throughout the film not when he sweeps Ananya off her feet and neither when he becomes the punching bag of both families and Ananya too.
Acting by the side characters like Ronit Roy-Amrita Singh and Revathi-Shivkumar Subramanium is much more interesting. Amrita as the loud mouthed Punjabi mother while Revathi as the classical singing student and typical Tam-Bram mother are brilliant in their bits.

Technical and Other Departments:
There's hardly much to highlight in the cinematography as well as music. They are average at best. Direction and screenplay is good.

Movie Analysis:
This isn't the first time that a book is being adapted into a film. Filmmakers like Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Vishal Bhardwaj have done it time and again and very successfully. Book-adaptation too is an art if you come to think of it. One has to aesthetically bring to life the world and characters imagined by the readers and also add his/her creative input to take the book to another level as a film.

Director Abhishek Varman brings absolutely nothing new to the table. The film appears a point by point reenactment of the entire book with only an exception - all humorous bits either get excluded or dumbed down. The film is highly predictable and there's absolutely no fun in watching a dragged 149 minute long story which has nothing refreshing to offer.
There still are portions which work for the film, despite being few and far in between. The entry sequence of Amrita Singh followed by the humour that comes out of the meeting of parents from both sides is entertaining.

Final View:
Overall, 2 States is a wasted opportunity to encash the popularity of a book. Despite the cast, the budgets and brand in place, the film fails to make a mark purely due to faulty execution. Not a funny or entertaining rom-com this one.

Varun Dhawan,Ileana D'Cruz & Nargis Fakhri New Bollywood Film Main Tera Hero Movie Review:
The movie is at times slapstick, at times dramatic, at times action-packed and at times romantic but all times funny and entertaining, reminding you of those comedies of the yore where David Dhawan was at his best.

Story:
On being flunked by his professor in college, Sreenath Prasad aka Seenu (Varun Dhawan), the highly notorious boy of the entire Ooty decides to take matters to hand and moves to Bangalore to pursue further schooling. On the first day of college itself Seenu falls for Sunaina (Illeana D'cruz) the most dreaded girl in the entire college for she has an obsessive lover Angad (Arunoday Singh) pursuing her like since forever and has threatened every boy in sight to never so much as even look at her.
As Seenu tries to tackle Angad comes another problem - Ayesha (Nargis Fakhri), daughter of a dreaded gangster (Anupam Kher), who is completely smitten by Seenu ever since he saved her from goons and wants him at any cost. How he tackles both Angad and Ayesha to work his way towards Sunaina is what follows through the rest of the plot.

Artists Performance:
What's best about Main Tera Hero is that you don't see any actor being wasted. Even the likes of Rajpal Yadav are involved in the script meticulously. Arunoday Singh, Nargis Fakhri and Illeana D'cruz too act well and play their parts convincingly but all get over shadowed by Varun Dhawan.

Technical and Other Departmnets:
Music by Sajid-Wajid is breezy and foottaping especially songs like Besharmi ki height and Shanicar Rati which have already become chartbusters. Background score is good. Screenplay and Cinemautography is good.

Movie Analysis:
David Dhawan who teamed best with Govinda and Salman Khan making audiences chuckle with funny characters, personality traits of people, situations and his famous one liners and PJs struggled in between with his comedies either being borrowed from the West or simply unfunny. However, with Main Tera Hero he redeems himself and reinstates that he still is the King of Comedy. It's as if he was saving his best for the movie with his son.

While daddy dearest puts up a movie that has all the masala for a commercial blockbuster right from romance to action to drama and above all some rib tickling comedy, son Varun too complements his father's efforts well with a performance that actually establishes him as the future superstar. Varun blends so well in David Dhawan's style of filmmaking as if he is Govinda's newage version only highly upgraded. This Govinda version 2.0 not only is extremely confident onscreen but has dancing skills and acting abilities to vie for. The young star outshines even the seasoned actors like Sourabh Shukla an d Anupam Kher who are hilarious in their own way.

Final View:
After years one has seen a film complete with all elements of a commercial caper and yet not tripe or boring. A thoroughly entertaining film, Main Tera Hero is a must watch.

Sunny Deol and Ayesha Khanna New Bollywood Film Dishkiyaoon Movie Review:
You know you aren't needed back in the industry when you disappear and aren't remembered by anyone. As rude as this sounds but we wish it could've been made clear to Mr. Harman Baweja who hardly shows any sign of improvement in his comeback film after a long haul -Dishkiyaoon.

The movie happens to a maiden production venture by Shilpa Shetty which also stars Sunny Deol and except for the latter's presence there's hardly a reason why one should watch a apology of a screenplay as Dishkiyaoon.

Story:
Following an edgy childhood, Viki Kartoos (Harman Baweja) wants to make it big in the underworld. Under the mentoring of Mota Tony (Prashant Narayanan) Viki enters the underworld and aims to be known as the number one gangster in India. The movie traces his highs and lows of Viki Kartoss in the underbelly of Mumba.

Artists Performance:
Sunny Deol who attempts a Haryanvi character for the first time tries hard to do justice to a character that suffers mediocrity while debutant actress Ayesha Khanna lacks promise and appears to have only been kept for songs and all the commercial trappings.

Technical and Other Departments:
The screenplay, written by the director himself, has no proper emotional hook anywhere to make audience feel interested in it. Instead, it just drags and bore audience to death. The film ends up another attempt in presenting a slick film, without substance. This film deals only Commercial based elements. Music is Average.

Movie Analysis:
Directed by Sanamjit Singh Talwar, Dishkiyaoon still has a first half that may hold the attention of junkies of gangster flicks. The first half does depict an innovatively shot interaction between Sunny Deol and Harman Baweja as we are taken in the early life of Viki Kartoos, his psyche, his traumas and his indulgences, all while the two are inside bars much against your knowledge. But it's the second half which meanders into paths so meaningless that you are left exasperated.

It's high time filmmakers understand, going by the current trend at least, that the audience has actually become quite choosey about the films they watch and content is the key. Dishkiyaoon is an example of good packaging with shallow product which also is the case with its lead actor Harman Baweja who focuses more on highlighting his chiselled torso than his expressions.

Final View:
Throughout the film Viki Kartoos keeps reiterating his mantra that being smart is enough for him in his field, only if the makers could stick to the story in a similar fashion we would've had a far better film than Diskiyaoon. A complete shot in the dark.

Sunny Leone and Saahil Prem New Bollywood Film Ragini MMS 2 Movie Review:
Horror genre's fascination for children continues so while even in the West you have movies like Mama, The Conjuring, Insidious etc. using children as medium for chills and frights, Bollywood too has shown its fascination for kids in its horror movies. Similar is the case of the Ragini MMS 2 who uses a mother child bond as the back story of its horror plot and gives it a commercial twist by turning it into horrex (horror + sex).

Story:
A movie based on a movie, quite a smart move by Bhushan Patel, Ragini MMS 2 actually revolves around the story of its prequel. A renowned filmmaker decides to make a movie on the story of Ragini (protagonist of the first part) who now is in mental asylum. He ropes in porn star turned actress Sunny played by Sunny Leone (coincidence much?) to play Ragini in the film and taking the writer Satya's (Saahil) suggestion decides to shoot the film in the very same bungalow where the actual incident happened. Things go awry when the crew reaches the bungalow and the vengeful spirit starts haunting them all.

Artists Performance:
Ragini MMS 2 works only because of Sunny Leone. Finally in her comfort zone this time around, Sunny outshines everyone and is brilliant not just in the steamy scenes but also in the scary portions towards the end. The rest of the cast including the experienced actors like Parvin Dabbas, Sandhya Mridul and Divya Dutta get wasted in the film.

Technical and Other Departments:
There's skin show, lip locks, double meaning dialogues and more in a film that's also supposed to scare but fails to deliver that. In a bid to titillate the mass, the maker reduces the horror quotient which actually was substantial in the first part. Screenplay is Bad.

Movie Analysis:
Filmmaker Bhushan Patel doesn't give two hoots about traditional mindsets and delivers what he promised all throughout the promos. There's skin show, lip locks, double meaning dialogues and more in a film that's also supposed to scare but fails to deliver that. In a bid to titillate the mass, the maker reduces the horror quotient which actually was substantial in the first part.

The movie takes the hackneyed route for the horror portions and you have a doctor deciding to chant mantras to ward off the spirit or the usage of witchcraft etc.

Final View:
Despite a half-baked script with cliched masala, Ragini MMS 2 is worth a watch purely for Sunny Leone's performance.

Monali Thakur and Satish KaushiNew Bollwood Film Lakshmi Movie Review:
Filmmaker Nagesh Kukunoor who's best known for films like Hyderabad Blues, Iqbal and Dor had his luck running dry for quite some time at the box-office and as well as with critics. Not only were his movies like Aashayein, Mod etc. tanking at the theaters but were also being criticized for being poorly executed. However, the maker is back in a space he is best known for with Lakshmi.

Story:
Dealing with the harsh realities of human trafficking and child prostitution, the movie is about a 13 year old girl Lakshmi (Monali Thakur) who is kidnapped and sold into prostitution. Thrown into a ghastly world, Lakshmi gets raped, brutally battered repeatedly by men like her pimp China (Nagesh Kukunoor) and the horrid customers he sends her way. But the most grisly conditions don't break her will to retaliate and after repeated attempts for survival she finally makes her way for a better life.

Artists Performance:
Lakshmi works best not just for its shocking story of depraved and immoral humans but also for its casting and acting. Singer turned actress Monali Thakur is spot on in her debut film. Her childlike face brilliantly juxtaposes with the crudity of the brothels and viciousness of men.

While the debutant actress impresses, you have to watch the seasoned actors like Satish Kaushik and Shefali Shah perform. Satish Kaushik's portrayal of the brothel owner is absolutely brilliant and so is the case with Nagesh Kukunoor who maliciously plays a pimp. Shefali Shah too is in top form while Ram Kapoor as a lawyer is passable.

Technical and Other Departments:
cinematography is good. Script and narration is good. Screenplay and Background is good. Music is Average.

Movie Analysis:
There's hardly any subtlety at play in Lakshmi. Nagesh Kukunoor, who brings to fore the plaguing issues of child prostitution and illegal human trafficking that yet are to be eradicated from the rural heartlands of India, relies heavily on shock value to leave the audience with a gut-wrenching experience, assumedly with a hope to bring a change. After all, it's a story based on true events.

Most of the gruesome scenes are very in-your-face but you wonder after a point whether such graphical representation is actually required? Couldn't the audience be left to imagine the worst? Moreover, it's the crudity of the language, mannerisms of the actors and situation that Nagesh shows his prowess in, however, the rest of the portions get amateurishly handled. One expects nail-biting courtroom drama but owing to lackadaisical dialogues it loses the punch.

Final View:
Overall, Lakshmi is a story that's disturbing, shocking but a courageous effort. Watch this movie for stellar performances.

Sharman Joshi and Parambrata Chatterjee New Bollywood Film Gang Of Ghost Movie Review:
There's ample going for Gang of Ghosts, the fact that it's an official remake of Bengali superhit comedy Bhooter Bhobishyo, a credible actor Satish Kaushik known for his impeccable comic timing at the helm of affairs and a cast filled with actors who've proved their mettle in comedy; however, despite all merits to it, the movie turns out to be dreary and unfunny.

Story:
With the old mansions and mills of South Mumbai being razed to make way for swanky condominiums, malls and multiplexes, there's hardly any space left to survive, even for Ghosts! Gang of Ghosts is a film based on such a concept. Some of these dilapidated disputed buildings were haunted by Ghosts who had taken shelter there over centuries. They were evicted and are homeless today. There is no rehabilitation package on offer. Politicians, media, intellectuals, civic society- no one gives a dam to them. After all, Ghosts can't vote.

Artists Performance:
It's only the actors who salvage the film to certain extent. Actors like Parambrata Chatterjee, Sharman Joshi are perfect in their parts while the likes of Anupam Kher, Rajpal Yadav, Asrani, Sourabh Shukla are hilarious. It's their comic timing which makes some of the weakest gags also humorous. Priyanka Chopra's cousin Meera lacks promise amd Mahie Gill hams while Chunky Pandey gets wasted.

Technical and Other Departments:
While the first half of the film still is entertaining as the story unfurls courtesy some pace in the screenplay and some jokes, the second half slumps and the graph only starts spiraling down. It's then that you also have banal jokes and lame PJs that probably wouldn't have made you laugh had you received them as SMSes as well. Music and Backgroud Score is Avarage.

Movie Analysis:
Royal Mansion is one such heritage property which is rented out for film shoots to facilitate its maintenance. A heroine faints during a shooting allegedly sighting Ghost in a mirror. A filmmaker on a recce to the building gets to hear of a spooky story revolving around the house. But is it just a tall tale or is there a twist?

Filmmaker Satish Kaushik succumbs to the pressures of making a masala film owing to which you see item numbers, romantic songs and more throughout the two hour film which drains you by the end of it. The movie runs listlessly with gags only few and far in between.

Final View:
On the whole, Gang of Ghosts tries too hard to be funny and fit the bill of a commercial caper. Sadly, it falls short by miles.

Yami Gautam and Ali Zafar New Bollywood Film Total Siyappa Movie Reivew:
There's a certain credibility attached to Neeraj Pandey's work, after all the man made movies like A Wednesday and Special 26. So when you have him penning a script for a film to be helmed by Eeshwar Niwas who made the national award winning film Shool, you expect heaps. But unfortunately, Total Siyappa nose dives into the lowest pits of insipidity even before it starts.

Story:
Set in London, the movie is about a love story between a Pakistani boy Aman (Ali Zafar) and Indian girl Asha (Yaami Gautam) that runs into a roadblock when Asha decides to make Aman meet her loud Punjabi family that detests Pakistan. What happens when India and Pakistan come under one roof and how the night turns bizarre by every passing minute is what follows through the rest of the plot.

Artists Performance:
Eeshwar Niwas falters in casting as well. Not only is the characterization of side characters week but so is the casting. Characters like Asha's brother, grandfather and sister are so poorly portrayed that they actually leave you annoyed. The only lesser evil in this apology of a film is Kirron Kher. It's her sheer experience and impeccable comic timing that you do laugh once or twice in the film. Anupam Kher gets wasted. Both Ali Zafar and Yaami Gautam suffer from poor characterization.

Technical and Other Departments:
The elegantly done-up cosy and eccentric atmosphere of a London home, for one. David Meadows' cinematography looks at London as home rather than a tourist destination. Sanjoy Chowdhury's background score reminds us that no matter how hard the characters scream, the music needn't get aggressive in support.
Music is Avarage.

Movie Analysis:
It's astonishing how the man behind the two gripping thrillers like A Wednesday and Special 26 that went onto winning audience and critical acclaim can go so horribly wrong whilst trying his hand at comedy. A lax and shoddy representation of Spanish film Seres Queridos, the movie despite being one hour 50 minutes in length ends up appearing an unending saga.

The maker tries really hard to tackle the cross-border conflict humorously and convey a message of peace but his efforts are as pointless as the efforts made in reality. Neither does this rom-com brings out the romance or chemistry between the lead protagonists nor brings in any situation that's funny enough for one to chuckle. The gags and punches are so puerile and predictable that it doesn't even make you smile.

Final View:
Total Siyappa is a lesson in knowing that merely seeking inspiration from international films isn't enough one still has to work on the script to make it palatable. A complete waste of a good plot.

Farhan Akhtar and Vidya Balan New Bollywood Film Shaadi ke Side Effects Movie Review:
The battle of sexes is not new to Hindi films. Men are from Mars, women from Venus theory has been dealt with much too many times in movies in the past especially in pretext to relationships with the prominent example being Pritish Nandy Communications' Pyaar Ke Side Effects. It's only obvious then for people to have high expectations from its sequel - Shaadi Ke Side Effects. With a fresh pairing of Farhan Akhtar and Vidya Balan, the movie starts off brilliantly but somewhere along the courses loses plot.

Story:
The movie starts off with a married Siddharth (Farhan) striking up a random conversation with also married Trisha (Vidya Balan) at a discotheque. The two hit it off over bickering about their spouses so much so that their tryst turns into a one night stand only to for us to know during its course that they are married to each other and it's just a role play to keep the fire in their relation alive. Sid does everything in his capacity to keep his marriage "happening" and gives suggestions to others as well on how to keep away from the marital fights but a baby is never in his scheme of things. The finds himself losing control over his life and marriage the moment Trishna announces her pregnancy and the banter and bickering start off from thereon.

Artists Performance:
It's not just Vidya and Farhan that keep you going during the low points of the film. Given the fact that the two are brilliant in their parts, it's also the side actors like Vir Das and Purab Kohli, no matter how conveniently placed in the storyline, who keep up the humour quotient.

Technical and Other Departments:
The writer somehow managed to come up with the lamest comic scenes Bollywood has ever seen, in the first half. Farhan Akhtar is not delivering a convincing, impressive act but is over acting most times in this direction-less movie. Scenes don't have a progression of sorts but are a pile of random scenes put together. All of these scenes remind us of the same situations we have seen in many cliché American comedies.
Screenpaly is good. Music is Avarage.

Movie Analysis:
aket Choudhary, who also helmed the cult comedy Pyar Ke Side Effects, kick-starts his film with gags and situations that are so relatable that you can't help but break into splits every time. Both Farhan and Vidya are spot on with their comic timing and even the chemistry between them is infectious.
Interestingly, as an audience you empathize with both Trisha and Sid and laugh at their miseries as well. However, the laughathon comes to a grinding halt at the interval. The second half starts spiraling downwards and the graph never sees a high from thereon. It's as if the movie should've ended in the first half itself for there's only melodrama and preaching in the second which is a complete put off after a hilarious first half.


Final View:
Overall, Shaadi Ke Side Effects is a great rom-com gone bad. The movie still is a great watch only and only for its first half.

Ranveer Singh and Arjun kapoor New Bollywood Film Gunday Movie Review:
If there's one film that's unapologetic about being soaked in the '70s flavour it is Gunday. There's formula galore in the film, so let me put it out upfront - Bromance, love triangle, betrayal, fight between two thick friends over a girl etc is all that you'll see in Gunday. But don't you consider it a spoiler because the makers themselves have made no bones about revealing this. The hook here is the execution. Despite a predictable plot, it's the screenplay, acting and drama that gives you your money's worth.

Story:
Tracing the epic bromance, Gunday starts off with rise of Bangladesh post the 1973 war and how two refugee friends Bikram (Ranveer Singh) and Bala (Arjun Kapoor) get sucked into trading illegal weapons in a bid to make a living. Post a life threatening incident, the two flee to Calcutta, turn coal mafia and build their empire there of all things wrong. The two rule Calcutta and all is well in their thick bromance till Nandini (Priyanka Chopra), a cabaret dancer walks in. Both fall for the same girl but she only loves one leaving the other heart broken. With ACP Satyajit Sarkar (Irrfan Khan) looking for one chink in the armour, he uses this against the Gunday and all hell breaks lose.

Artists Performance:
Both Ranveer and Arjun show tremendous screen presence and the filmmaker doesn't leave a chance to capture their offscreen bonding onscreen. The two are quite a pleasant sight too what with all their bronzed, beefy body; yet another move by the maker to nail the tall, dark and handsome phenomenon. It's surprising how they easily over shadow the presence of the original desi girl of Bollywood, Priyanka Chopra. All her tremendous beauty goes to waste in front of the boys' bromance.

Techincal and Departments:
The movie also scores for its setting and backdrop. Ali Abbas Zafar pulls off a commendable job of recreating Calcutta of the '70s. Even the slick action and the styling of the actors is praiseworthy.

Final View:
Overall, Gunday is entertaining despite being a masala fair. This old wine in a saucy new bottle works!

Randeep Hooda and Alia Bhatt New Hindi Film Highway Movie Review:
Travel has been an intrinsic part of all Imtiaz Ali films right from Socha Na Tha to Rockstar but with Highway, the filmmaker takes you on an unforgettable road trip that not only touches you but also leaves you with ample to mull over.

Story:
An otherwise free-spirited girl Veera Tripathi (Alia Bhatt), daughter of a rich businessman, gets claustrophobic with all her relatives gearing her up for her marriage. Fed up with the suffocating environment, she calls her fiance in the middle of the night and much against his will insists on going for a drive towards the highway. Their drive goes horribly wrong and leaves Veera in the hands of a goon Mahabir Bhatti (Randeep Hooda) who kidnaps her. On learning her privileged background he keeps her at ransom and takes her along state to state only to realize life has something else in stores for him as he finds Veera enjoying her freedom whilst with him.

Artists Performance:
Alia Bhatt, in career defining performance, delivers the best that is expected from the director. Imtiaz's casting is just fantastic. Randeep Hooda, an actor who was lost in the dirty pile of cliché, semi porn films has made a great come back to the real cinema through Highway.

Technical and Other Departments:
This review is not complete without the soulful music by AR Rahman that adds richness to the picturesque landscape and the breathtaking cinematography of the scenic Himachal. I am sure no other Indian films would have pictured the kind of scenic and strange locations seen in this film. Director Imtiaz Ali scores again in choosing these exotic locations to tell his story. These locations actually become the characters in the movie and helps the narrative to a great extent.
The songs and background music helps to blend the scenes together. In total, this is a beautiful film about human enlightenment and seeing the beauty in all things around us. Film suggests the audience to lead a more fulfilling life by expressing themselves in the way they want to.

Movie Analysis:
It's after Socha Na Tha that Imtiaz Ali brings about an infectious innocence in his film that instantly strikes a chord with the audience. The movie starts at a languid pace and keeps to it right till the end but doesn't give you a chance to complain for it takes you along with its journey making you feel for the characters, their joy, inhibitions, pathos et al. Imtiaz Ali who's had a strong hand at capturing emotions of the Gen-X once again taps the young minds and tackles their concerns with utmost sensitivity.

One of the strongest points in the film is casting. The director almost nails the casting by roping in Alia Bhatt who gives a startling performance. It wouldn't be an overstatement to say that the movie thrives on her young yet strong shoulders as she delivers one flawless sequence after the other. There couldn't be another actor than Randeep Hooda to complement her well. The man who is listed amongst one of the hottest men of India easily slips into the unkempt goon's role and is spot on in the mannerisms, accent etc. There's ample soul in the chemistry between the two and you literally feel for the character.
The movie does get melodramatic towards the second half with the layers of Mahabir's character peeling off but it's the actors' histrionics that keep your interest in the film going.

Final View:
Overall, Highway is tantalizingly delicious and a journey you would want to embark on. Must watch.

Jimmy Shergill and Nushrat Bharucha New Bollyfilm Darr @ The Mall Movie Review:
Trailers actually prove the importance of their being in case of films like Darr @ The Mall. One look at the promos and you know this is Grudge meets Mama meets Conjuring affair. Why do you watch it still? For the "novel" idea of the haunting occuring in a mall. Does it surprise you? Not really!

Story:
Vishu Sharma (Jimmy Shergill) is roped in as chief of security on the suggestion of a security head who dies an accidental death while working in the mall quite like the eight others in the past. The mall is now shut and rumours about it being haunted start doing the rounds in media. Now the owners want to host a lavish party only to prove things are normal and reopen the mall. Vishnu who is new to the mysterious occurrings starts investigating the details only to unearth a horrid history behind the making of the mall but by which time the peeved spirit is out to get the wrong doers who are enjoying their party.

Artists Performances:
Jimmy Shergill is the only minimal respite in this trite apparent horror film who performs with utmost earnesty. The likes of Nushrat Bharucha and Arif Zakaria only ham and stutter throughout the film.

Technical and Other Departments:
There nothing new in the story and lack of screenplay & Direction, Only Sound effects and Backgroung score will feel you that, yes this is a Horror film.

Movie Analysis:
Darr @ The Mall relies on cheap thrills with cakey faced ghosts, ghostly children and sound effects. So there's more thuds and sudden elevation of background score along with creepy faces being thrown at you rather than an interesting plot which can work on your mind and scare you. To make matters worse you have ideas heavily borrowed from the West and shabbily treated which end up being unintentionally humorous.

Final View:
Overall, Darr @ At The Mall in short is a cliched horror film with extremely lengthy run time which bores you to the core. Easily avoidable.

Salman Khan New Hindi Film Jai Ho Movie Review:
Jai Ho, Bollywood's this year's jackpot, hit the theatres last Friday and is receiving mixed response. The film, on which a lot of expectations are riding on, hasn't netted the expected opening sum but still considered a hit. The nature of reviews came from the critics were same. As Jai Ho is a masala entertainer, it couldn't impress the intelligentia of the country. From a business point of view, Jai Ho has collected 60.68 crores within three days and Salman camp expects it to hit the 100 crore club within the coming week.

Story:
Jai, an upright common man is fighting a solitary war against corruption and injustice. Honest and incorruptible, he has made it his mission to help as many people as he can. His mantra is quite simple – help somebody and then request that person to lend a helping hand to somebody else – thus forming an ever growing circle of people helping each other. In a strange twist of fate, he finds himself pitted against a powerful politician and his vile family. Jai who is an ex army officer, will not shy away from a battle, however bloody it may get and firmly believes that you do not have to wear an uniform to serve your country. As the politician unleashes his violent goons on brave heart Jai, Geeta, Jai’s sister, realises the horrific consequences this can have on her brother and the rest of their family. She persuades a reluctant Jai to make peace with the politician. But when this leads to humiliation being heaped on him, Jai loses his cool and declares all out war. It is an unequal war – on side stand the politician with his numerous henchmen and on one side is Jai – alone. But unknown to him, a silent revolution is taking place. The voiceless public, he has helped in the past, is gathering force. It finally has a voice and this voice cannot...will not be silenced because Jai Ho is the resounding sound of victory. Jai Ho is the warrior cry of someone determined to win at all cost.

Artists Performance:
Apart from an in-form Salman Khan, the film also features a wonderful Tabu and a diligent Danny. Talking about the cast, the film has a barrage of special appearances. So much that it looks like Salman's gift to most of his friends from the industry - many of who are out of work. So there is Ashmit Patel, Yash Tonk, Vatsal Sheth, Genelia D'Souza, Bruna Abdullah, Aditya Pancholi, Nauheed Cyrusi, Mahesh Manjrekar, Mukul Dev apart from Suniel Shetty and ex-Bigg Boss inmate Sana Khan. And of course the scene-stealing delightful child-actor Naman Jain, who has earlier wowed us in Bombay Talkies and Chillar Party! Naman probably is the best of the lot as he brings in the best moments in the film with effortless comic timing. The film also sees the debut of Daisy Shah as the lead girl. She does not have much do.

Technical and Other Departments:
Sohail Khan attempts to create a positive jingoism of warmth and goodness. But the director fails to fabricate the genuineness as it doesn’t emerge out the required intensity due to the over enthusiasm of its screenplay The preaching is overdone and had it not been for Salman Khan the film would have been entirely unwatchable.

The romance scenes were half baked and did not have the expected fluff. Often the film’s screenplay inflicts severe wounds on the intelligence of the audiences but when there is such unbelievable thunderous action to get mesmerized by, why waste time picking out logic lapses in the film. If you were looking for logic, Dedh Ishqiya would have been a super-hit. Especially, in the climax scene, when an army tanker guns down people who come to kill Jai, if you manage to find logic then hats off to you! The brisk editing works fine as the film remains fast paced and doesn’t fall slack too much. The music is unbearable.

Movie Analysis:
Salman’s movies are never about the script but about how well the scheme of things help in using the actor’s star power. But to its credit Jai Ho has an efficient story to itself. What falls limp is the frail execution of the film.

The film’s story comes without excessive baggage of intelligence and is kept simplistic in its vein. An army officer who underwent court martial after a failed terrorist operation becomes a car mechanic. The chain of affairs are webbed with such plainness that it all seems too easy for one. The concept of never wasting yourself saying thank yous rather help three other people, is both unreal and wishful. But atleast the film attempts to infuse some potent messages amidst the thrashing and action.
No one watches Salman’s films for exhilarating acting or story. We understand the limitations of the genre he has established but definitely the scripts he chooses have an intrinsic element of relatability.

On the grey side, the film repeats the moral value lessons so frequently that they turn tedious. The incredible hulk of a protagonist is intense and convincing only in the action bits, but the romance factor should have been done away with for good. The growling lead man is hilarious and will crack you up more than getting your respect. It’s low on IQ, extremely lame and I can point out ten other well-based problems but the goose bumps I got every time Salman stood up for the wrongs against people ,negates every glitch in the film.

Final View:
Destiny has it way. The song Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire was originally composed for Salman Khan's Yuvvraaj. And now Jai Ho turns a name for his film. Do not expect an Oscar for this film though!

Sidharth Malhotra New Hinid Film Hasee Toh Phasee Movie Review:
There is something about ad-film makers joining the film industry. They have invariably managed to get some freshness onto the big screen with their own quirkiness. Vinil Mathew adds to the list. This director who has made scores of well remembered ad-commercial [Cadbury, Imperial Blue, Surf Excel many other] makes a rather emphatic debut as a film director with Hasee Toh Phasee.

Story:
It's not the novelty of the story that pleases. The story in itself draws inspiration from many earlier films, where one character stays unsure throughout and makes a sure decision at the climax - in most cases it's about love. Hasee Toh Phasee too is about Nikhil (Siddharth Malhotra) who is in love with a Karishma (Adah Sharma) and how things change when he meets Karishma's sister Meeta (Parineeti Chopra). Sounds jaded? Artists Performances:
Parineeti is at her best. She makes it virtually impossible for the audience's eye to waver from here when she is on screen. She plays two avatars - a druggie genius and a lovable girl next door - with class. Siddharth Malhotra surprises in his second film. He finds his own and manages to establish himself as someone who cannot be ruled out. Adah Sharma is comfortable in her relatively smaller role. The delights are the seasoned Sharat Saxena and Manoj Joshi. They had moments which take your heart away.

Techincal and Other Departments:
Having said that Hasee To Phasee comes with its own flaws. Of course it is a predictable fare. More than that, the film seems longish at times. But then some impressive dialogue gets you back. Hasee Toh Phasee is a directorial winner. While it entertains, it also springs forth another director worth looking out to. It is a film which gets you to root for the protagonist. And you know you have winner when a film makes you feel such.
Screenplay is good. Music is good.

Movie Analysis:
Hasee Toh Phasee scores on its lead characters. Nikhil, who is willing to adapt to demands of a relationship despite too many hassles as he believes there is no guarantee that it could be better than what he has; and a rational Meeta, who through her own problems still manage to see life in plain shades. It is about the development in these characters, influenced by each other.

The detailing to each character strikes. They have professions, they have family and the story sails through both. So you see the scientist Meeta blabbering jargons and talking in Mandarin with her Chinese colleague, Nikhil trying to get money for his event company, the families into their respective businesses... and behaving accordingly! Needless to say there are umpteen moments which will make you smile, wishfully. And that's apart from all those moments which will at least let a chuckle out of you, if not a laughter.

Final View:
There is something about seven days and Bollywood. A habit may take 21 days to formulate, but in Bollywood, a lot more could happen in seven days.

Arshad Warsi and Madhuri Dixit New Hindi Film Dedh Ishqiya Movie Review:
One of the biggest formulas being applied over and over again in cinema over the last few years is that of converting a hit film into a franchise by dishing out sequels one after the other only to cash in on the success of the first. Now whether those sequels have anything to do with the first one or are even closely as good as the original is a redundant query. Some of the cerebral filmmakers too have fallen into the money spinning trap so it's no surprise that you see producer Vishal Bhardwaj too doling out the sequel to his 2010 superhit Ishqiya. But does his sequel live upto the standards? Let's find out.

Story:
Partners in crime, Khalujaan (Naseeruddin Shah) and Babban (Arshad Warsi) are back to their silly misadventures. The setting again is the badlands of North India although with a decadent feudal system.

Mahmudabad is the land of decrepit, crumbling Nawabs, each covering up for the bankruptcy with a sham of grandeur. Begam Para (Madhuri Dixit), an ageing widow of the late Nawab of Mahmudabad has a task at hand - to fulfil the last wish of her late husband that of re-marrying. A "Jalsa" is organised for all Nawabs, competitions held that of sher-mushairas, guns and ghazals. Enters Khalujaan under the garb of Nawaz of Chandpur followed by his Khadim Babban; the agenda - to ransack the wealth of Begam Para. Tables turn the moment Khalujaan lays eyes on Para and his heart flutters. He forgets the objective while trying to woo her only to know much later in the course, that Begam Para too, along with her aide Muniya (Huma Qureshi) has a plan up her sleeves.

Artists Performance:
Both Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi once again form the heart of the film. Their antics and banter make for an enjoyable watch. However, this time around it's Arshad who supersedes Naseeruddin Shah's performance.

Madhuri Dixit is luminates in her comeback film and is as graceful as ever. There are dance portions of the actress which are extremely delightful and beautifully shot. Huma on the other hand remains underutilized and hence, may be the only sore thumb in the list of actors.

Among the many character actors in the film, the one that outshines is Vijay Raaz. Not only does he get a meaty part to play but also the right director who taps his potential as an actor and extracts commendable display of acting prowess

Technical and Other Departments:
With artistic cinematography and skillful editing, this Abhishek Chaubey film Dedh Ishqiya packs a punch. The film has a unique sensibility of wild West films, where death becomes just another joke. You sit around a table and talk for sometime with the goons and suddenly you feel somebody's remark about you is so insulting, you drew a gun and bham! And nobody really cares about death or the death count! Cinematographer Setu, who has won great accolades for his work in Taare Zameen Par and Kahaani, is one of the stars of the film. You cannot often see this kind of brilliant lighting and grading in Bollywood movies.Music is good. Background score is good.

Movie Analysis:
The film scores ace on the laudable story of Darab Farooqui, painstakingly written screenplay of Abhishek Choubey and the saucy, witty and hilarious dialogues of Vishal Bhardwaj.

The story is extensive, there's ample back and forth, the characters are complex, each with a grey shade but it's Abhishek's master direction that doesn't leave any depiction rushed. He takes his time to establish the backdrop, that of the dying era of Nawabs. He interestingly captures their failing attempts of the few leftover Nawabs to latch on to the Nawabi royalty and its perks. He evolves his characters smartly as their real agenda blend brilliantly with the proceeding storyline.
It all goes very good in Dedh Ishqiya till the penultimate moment and the film goes awry from thereon. It's Vishal and his protege's fascination for Tarantino that reflects in the end there the screenplay goes completely berserk and there's mindless gun-totting and bloodshed. Also the later portions of the second half appear extremely stretched and could well be edited for a crisper screenplay.

Final View:
Overall, Dedh Ishqiya falls just a step short of being flawless and that's only because of the Tarantino-esq climax. But in the rest of the portions, the film, as promised, "Dedh" (One and a half) times the fun of the original.

Aamir khan and Katrina kaif New Bollywood Film Dhoom 3 Movie Review:
There's a reason why Yash Raj Films is the biggest and the most prestigious banner in the Hindi Film Industry because when they make films people WATCH! There's a reason why Dhoom 3 was meant to release towards the fag end of the year because one needed a grand finale for an eventful 2013. There's also a reason why you should watch this film. It's GRAND! Dhoom series have always been formula films with the good against the bad, the cops and robbers, the bikes, the stunts, the hotties and handsomes. But with the entry of Aamir Khan to the franchise, YRF has taken the film to another level. The movie brings to fore an emotional undercurrent which has been missing in the earlier two parts and strikes a chord with the masses in the very first 15 minutes. Major credit goes to the veteran superstar Jackie Shroff and the little wonder Sidharth Nigam who build the premise of the film so strong that the unfurling of the following events give an elevated experience.

Story:
Similar to the earlier series, Dhoom 3 too is essentially a cops and robber drama. Sahir (Aamir Khan) is a robber in the garb of a gymnast and a circus artist. His heists wreack havoc in Chicago city in USA, the clue that he is an Indian comes about with the message he always leaves behind in Hindi. Hence, two cops from Mumbai Police, Jai (Abhishek Bachchan) and Ali (Uday Chopra) are called in to nab the thief.
Do they manage the unmanagable? Watch out..

Artists Performance:
On the acting front, Abhishek and Uday both keep up with their act of Jai and Ali and bring nothing new to the table. The new entrants however, are the ones to be discussed. Aamir Khan partly gets his act right. There's imperfection in his act this time around and although you are impressed with the superstar in some sequences, in some parts he really disappoints. Katrina Kaif on the other hand gets a prop part yet again. The actress is introduced into the plot only to elongate the length of the screentime what with all the songs and tamashas.

Technical and Other Departments:
The best part is, there's no bond or connection with the earlier DHOOM installments. Those who haven't watched or perhaps don't vividly recall the 2004 installment, or the subsequent one in 2006, need not worry, for the third chapter has a fresh plot and barring Jai and Ali, the focus is on Sahir and Aaliya, the newest incumbents. While the premise has ample twists and turns, the screenplay does a great job of upping the thrill quotient. Also, the narrative advances at an eloquent tempo, with the director making the spectator hold his/her breath and cheer at the same time. The motive is to offer unabashed entertainment and Vijay Krishna Acharya thrives completely in his endeavor.

A significant contribution to the DHOOM series has been by the action choreographer and the fights, thrills, chases and stunts in DHOOM-3 are pulsating and most significantly, trendily implemented. The razor-sharp editing, awe-inspiring cinematography and well designed CGI also merit an enthusiastic round of applause. Pritam's musical score captures the mood of the film well. While 'Dhoom Machaale' continues to feature in this film too, 'Malang', 'Kamli' and 'Dhoom Tap' stand out as well. The choreography of 'Malang', besides the spectacular and extravagant production design, is astounding.



Movie Analysis:
To get the negatives out of the way first, the drawbacks of the film come in the names of formula and edit. There's nothing highly unpredictable in the film. The way the story unfurls is something that you may have thought through much in advance. Where the maker scores in such situation is the screenplay. Despite a predictable plot, the story doesn't bore you because the drama quotient is kept in check.

Coming to the edit, it's the length of the film which can also work slightly against it. With 172 minutes and length songs, one does get exhausted by the end of the film. The movie could easily be chopped by 15 minutes at least for a more snappy and sharp approach.

As for the positivies, as mentioned above, Dhoom 3 is unlike other Dhoom series. The emotional quotient of the film is quite high but that doesn't mean one witnesses ample melodrama. There's a fair balance of unadulterated action and emotional connect that director Vijay Krishna Acharya brings about in the story. Moreover, there are ample twists and turns to not let you get bored too.

YRF has always been known for great production quality and Dhoom 3 redefines grandeur. The movie takes the visual medium to a whole new level with the way it is shot. The larger than life robbery sequences followed by stylist and nail biting bike chase sequences and the action and stunts that follow are a complete paisa vasoo

Final View:
Overall, Dhoom 3 is bigger, grander and visually spectacular but has it's share of flaws too. A must watch for the sheer grandeur.

Naseeruddin Shah and Sunny Leone New Hindi Film Jackpot Movie Review:
Kaizad Gustad who last made Katrina Kaif's debut film Boom marks his return to filmmaking after eons with Sachiin Joshi and Sunny Leone starrer Jackpot. True to his filmmaking style, this time around too the movie revolves around men, money and molls. But whether this attempts finally helps him taste success or leaves a bad taste in mouth let's find out.

Story:
Based in Goa, Francis (Sachiin Joshi) is on his con job once again, this time around to steal the jackpot prize worth 5crores from casino boat owner Boss (Naseeruddin Shah). His partner in crime in Maya (Sunny Leone) who helps him execute his master plan. Whether he succeeds in his con job or not is what follows through the rest of the plot.

Artists Performance:
On the acting front, there's more Goa in each character then there ever would be in any Goan. The conversations are all about sudden shift to Konkani language, lots of "what men and hey men" and tattooed actors with funky wardrobes. Only, in this case, the funky appears very caricaturish. Even the dread locks on Naseeruddin Shah appear extremely forced. Sunny Leone appears to be roped in the film only to bend down and show off her assets time and again. Gutka Baron Sachiin Joshi tries way too hard to fit into the character but falls short and fails to impress yet again.

Technical and Other Departments:
The only place one can see the efforts of the direction is in directing the song shots. The romantic/dance numbers are shot slickly almost as if they were shot specifically for promotional purposes to entice the audience into the theaters. The tracks also do justice to the profiling of Sunny Leone and Sachiin Joshi but when placed in the film, they only add up the run time and break the flow of the story. The Music is Good. Cinematography is good. Background score is avarage. The custmes od sunny leone is Superb.Screenplay is bad.

Movie Analysis:
If there ever was an award category for the laziest story/screenplay of the year, Kaizad Gustad's Jackpot would be the undisputed winner of it. The movie has a linear plot for a perfect con story but it's the back and forth of the narrative and the non-linear approach which makes for a boring watch. Worse still there's ample repetition within a mere 92 minute movie and more discussion than action.

Jackpot is highly verbose. There's a lot of jibber-jabber by each and every character and discussions on their planning to such extent that you tire of their schemes and scams in no time. The entire suspense around the Jackpot money is extremely trite, insipid and goes on in circles most of the time. The thrill and drama fizzles out even before it gets a proper build up all courtesy the verbose element of the script.

Final View:
Overall, Jackpot is a complete yawn-fest and sleep inducing con-film which really tests your patience despite a short run-time. Best avoided.

Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha New Bollywood Film R...Rajkumar Movie Review:
After the super debacle of Phata Poster Nikla Hero, Prabhu Deva's latest movie R... Rajkumar was supposed to be the only saviour for actor ADVERTISEMENT Shahid Kapoor. Unfortunately, this one is even a bigger disappointment and could be easily nominated in the list of the worst movies of 2013. R... Rajkumar, featuring Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha in the leads, is a romantic action flick, that has loads of spoilers to spoil the viewers' mood. Amidst everything, if at all there could be any ray of hope in the movie that could be possibly Shahid and his marvellous performance. But, I wonder if Shahid's charm works in favour of R... Rajkumar.

Story:
The story of the film revolves around Rajkumar (Shahid Kapoor), an aimless youth who works for a drug baron named Shivraj (Sonu Sood). His latest mission is to kill a rival dealer named Manik Parmar (Ashish Vidyarthi). But Rajkumar's life changes forever when he claps eyes on the beautiful, educated Chanda (Sonakshi Sinha). What he doesn't know is that Chanda is an orphan who's been raised by her uncle - Manik Parmar! After some persistent wooing, Chanda falls for Rajkumar's charms. But in order for their love to flourish, he must destroy the drug cartel to which both Shivraj and Parmar owe allegiance, which is controlled by a Mafia don named Ajit Taaka (Srihari), who operates out of Malaysia. What happens next? Does Rajkumar defeat the villains and strike back to lead a normal life with Chanda?

Artists Performance:
Shahid Kapoor is wonderful in the movie. He does deliver a credible act in R... Rajkumar. But for Sonakshi Sinha, I fail to utter some good words. The lady needs to get over with her obsession of the same old, 'behenji' avatar. She is getting typecast as Bollywood's resident desi girl now. The rest of the cast including the likes of Sonu Sood, Aashish Vidyarthi, Asrani ham to the fullest, guess on the filmmaker's direction. Mukul Dev on the other hand makes the most of his character-sketch and actually is credited with some of the laugable gags.

Technical and Other Departments:
The music of ‘R..Rajkumar’ is very peppy and entertaining with the all the songs being designed and shot extremely well. The hit number ‘Saree Ke Fall Sa’ has been shot exceptionally and overall, the choreography is top notch as expected. The camerawork is pretty decent and showcases the rural atmosphere well. The dialogues of the film are just about OK while some of Shahid’s one liners seem to go over the top.

The screenplay is below par as Prabhu Deva loses the grip after a certain point of time. His direction is pretty ordinary as he could not do much given the very ordinary script. As usual, ‘R..Rajkumar’ has many scenes copied from various hit South-Indian films which is a usual practice in Prabhu Deva films.

Movie Analysis:
Formula films have always been Prabhu Dheva's area of interest but his fetish takes a highly repetitive turn as he removes all masala of his previous films and stuffs it in R...Rajkumar. The movie kickstarts with a high-octane action sequence packed with ear-splitting background score and you know you've landed yourself into a loud, brash film. You are not wrong, for R...Rajkumar is just that! The elements of the film right from the conflict to love to the drama and the action even are highly predictable and you just slouch in your seat helplessly waiting for it to unfurl onscreen. What's worse is that while Dheva would sprinkler Southern masalas in his prior films, this time around he overcooks the broth with excessive slapstick comedy, action that's highly unbelievable and romance that's only loud and unappealing.

The first half of the film still has its moment with some of the jokes really tickling your funny bones but you really wish the film ended at that for what follows all throughout the second half is nothing but gruesome assault on your senses. The movie pointlessly drags in the second half and touches the lowest pits of insipidness.

Final View:
Overall, R... Rajkumar is not even close to average. The film is loud, dramatic and over-the-top. I'm going with a generous one and half out of five rating.
