Akkineni Nagarjuna New Telugu Film Bhai Movie Review:
Director Veerabhadram Chowdary has got huge success with his comedy entertainers like Aha Naa Pellanta and Poola Rangadu. He has teamed up with Akkineni Nagarjuna for his third directorial venture Bhai. He has not done anything new in terms of its story, but has tried to show Nag in a stylish way. With its rich production values, the movie is nothing, but a Nag show.
Story:
Bhai (Nagarjuna) is the main henchman of international Don David (Asish Vidhyardhi). Bhai comes on a mission to kill an undercover cop who is creating problems for underworld mafia in Hyderabad. However, Bhai comes to know that undercover cop Arjun (Prasanna) is none other than his younger brother. Now Bhai has to rescue his brother from David and his son (Sonu Sood).
Artists Performances:
Nagarjuna is fit and glamorous as usual. At 54, he is still competing with young heroes in looks and physical maintenance. His performance is okay as Bhai. He did well in sentimental scenes. Richa Gangopadhyaya doesn't have much of a role to play. Her character is poorly written and irritates most of the times. Sonu Sood is wasted. Asish Vidhyardhi is over the top. Brahmanandam's cameo is okay. There is nothing much to write about the remaining star cast. There are many known faces in this film, but none of them got a role to remember.
Techncial and Other Departments:
Devi Sri Prasad failed as the music director. Songs are below par and the background score is pathetic. Dialogues, which are popularly known as Bhai bullets are horrible. There are tons of unnecessary dialogues in the movie. Sameer Reddy, who is a very good cinematographer failed miserably in this. It looked like it was shot by an amateur. Editing is equally bad.
Director Veerabhadram failed to make this an enjoyable fare. His first two films had good comedy and appealed to the crowds. This time he couldn't get anything right. Script is poorly written and execution is even worse. Veerabhadram should perhaps stick to his strengths rather making such mediocre mass entertainers.
Movie Analysis:
Bhai is a romantic-action entertainer with all other masala elements like catchy one-liners, drama, comedy and exotic locales. Nagarjuna's performance is the main highlight in the film. Veerabhadram's screenplay and dialogues, Richa's glamour, Devi Sri Prasad's foot-tapping music and background score, Sameer Reddy's beautiful camera work, Brahmanandam's comedy, beautiful costumes, art work and locales are other attractions of the movie.
The slow and dragging narration in the second half is the biggest drawback of the film. Bhai gets good opening at Box Office Veerabhadram has penned the script keeping Nagarjuna's image in mind and tried to present him in a way his fans will enjoy. Hence, the story of Bhai has nothing new to offer, but a few interesting twists and sound filmmaking techniques make the movie grand and lavish.
The director has done good job in some parts, but he should have done more homework on a few mafia and comedy scenes, which look mediocre. Set in the backdrop of mafia, the first half of the movie has some catchy one-liners, romance, songs, dance, comedy and stunning action shot in different exotic locales. This portion is high on entertainment quotient and you will enjoy it. But the movie hits a rough patch due to some sentimental sequences in the second half, which is dragging and boring. The climax is good and interesting to watch.
Final View:
Overall, Bhai is a good popcorn entertainer and the concoction of commercial elements make it a mass film, which everybody would love to watch. It is must watch film for the fans of Nagarjuna, who is coming back to mass format after long time.
